5 reasons for not breeding Shih Tzu-s, by APJ =)6 out of 10
1- Fierce. Seem nice to owner, but mad to strangers.
2- Crazy. in mind.
3- Messy. Fur easily tangle up without proper care.
4- Stubborn. Learn things very slow.
5- Vulnerable. Mainly eyes and skin problem.
Statistics made from what i saw and groomed.
Several times i nearly got bitten by shih tzu. Probably i unintentionally sexually seduced him/her while combing its fur. They want to return me with a love bite. Somehow, those were narrow!!! There are times when you were blowing its fur halfway, their head just turned around and show you its sharp yellowish long canine. They do the same act as well when i pass by their cage, plus the sound effect 'gggggrmmmm gggggggrrrrrrrrrm'. Let's talk about the fur. As a groomer, tangles turn on the nerves. First, if we comb them straight away, it suffers the dog. Second, if you just cut away all the tangles, the fur does not look nice anymore. So come up with the third solution, shave with the clipper. Most of the shih tzu, too many tangles, BOTAK is the only style. You never ask a shih tzu to sit, stand or for hand. They never follow. Hardly train them to follow simple instructions. Most of the shih tzu face serious skin problems. Did you ever see a dog leave over dandruffs all over the table after grooming? Scar and bruises on skin underneath the thick fur? Fleas and mites jumping against gravity all over th body? Did you ever discover a dog with green shiny eye balls? An eye ball which almost drop off from the socket? Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww.
All these might due to the genes. Genetic pollution occurs in between. Too many shih tzu-s reproduced in the market, when you mate 2 different shih tzu-s together, who knows, they might come from the same family. Undesirable genes inherit to the young, as the consequence, abnormal population born.
If you are new to grow a pet, the pet shop sales assistant will recommend you shih tzu for sure. It is because shih tzu reproduce very fast and it costs cheap! Well, think twice before you foot the bill. You hold a big responsibility of taking good care of that kid. Growing a pet is never hard and costly, it depends on how smart you are in treating it.
I suggest Toy Poodle and Miniature Schnauzer for beginners.
